One Equal Heart Foundation supports community-based programs in Chiapas, Mexico that make a difference in the lives of poor children and their families while fostering responsible stewardship of the environment and native lands. We accept gifts year-round so it's never to late to make a difference!
Here is how it works:
Step 1: We send your tax-deductible donations to the Jesuit Mission and its affiliate, Center for Indigenous Rights (CEDIAC), where they will be used to support programs that directly benefit poor children and their families.
Step 2: We send a postcard with a beautiful image that represents your gift to the family member or friend you designate, acknowledging that you have made this gift in their honor. Or if you prefer, we can send the postcard to you and you can mail or deliver it yourself.
Step 3: 100% of your gift supports community-based programs that are fighting to end hunger and poverty among Mexico’s “poorest of the poor.”
Your donation supports the following programs:
The Caretakers of the Earth Program: (view slide show) provides education, training and supplies for community volunteers in their work to: (1) support sustainable agriculture and small animal husbandry; (2) improve the nutritional health of hungry families; (3) promote the creation and use of LORENA stoves (view slide show) that require less firewood (reducing deforestation) and produce less smoke (improving air quality inside the home and family health); (4) install composting latrines to prevent contamination of rivers and streams and sewage-borne illnesses; (5) and build community greenhouses to extend the growing season and increase crop yields; and (6) encourage the recuperation of Tseltal traditions and rituals related to the cultivation of the Earth. The Community Health and Children's Nutrition Program: (1) identifies malnourished children in targeted villages and provides ongoing assessment of their growth and (2) teaches families how to make a nutritional supplement specially designed to make use of locally available ingredients and grow foods to improve family nutrition (view slide show). The Program also trains community health promoters who learn how to (3) employ traditional and Western medicines and techniques to cure illnesses, treat injuries, and alleviate suffering; (4) reduce public health risks such as tuberculosis, typhoid and malaria; and (5) install "living pharmacies" in isolated villages so that communities have greater access to medicinal remedies.
